What we check

A rough ride or loose steering can come from several places. Here’s what our inspections cover.

Clunking or knocking noises Bouncy or rough ride Vehicle pulling to one side Steering wheel vibration Loose or wandering steering Uneven tire wear Nose diving when braking Excessive body roll in turns Worn shocks & struts Ball joint & tie rod wear Control arm & bushing wear Power steering fluid leaks Difficulty steering at low speed Alignment-related drift Strange noises over bumps

Our suspension & steering process

01

Road test & listen

We note noises, pulling, bounce, or steering feel described, and confirm what’s happening with a short road test.

02

Inspect from underneath

The vehicle goes on the hoist so we can check shocks, struts, control arms, bushings, ball joints, and tie rods directly.

03

Check for play & wear

We test suspension and steering components for excess play, looseness, leaks, or physical damage.

04

Check tires & alignment signs

Uneven tire wear and pulling often point back to suspension or alignment issues, so we check both together.

05

Explain & repair only what’s needed

We’ll tell you exactly which parts are worn, what’s still fine, and give you a written quote before anything is replaced.

A clunk doesn’t always mean the whole suspension

One of the biggest mistakes with suspension work is assuming every noise or soft ride means shocks and struts across the board. Sometimes it’s a single worn bushing, a loose sway bar link, or a failing ball joint โ€” and only that part needs to be replaced.

We inspect the components before recommending the repair.

Common causes of ride & steering problems

The wrong repair wastes money and doesn’t fix the ride. Finding the actual worn part is the whole point.

Worn shocks or struts

Cause a bouncy ride, longer stopping distance, and excess body roll in turns.

Worn ball joints

Can create clunking noises and, if ignored, affect steering control.

Worn tie rod ends

Lead to looseness in the steering and uneven tire wear over time.

Worn control arm bushings

Cause clunks and vague handling, especially over bumps or turns.

Failing sway bar links

A common source of knocking noises and increased body roll.

Power steering fluid leak

Can cause heavy or difficult steering, especially at low speeds.

Is your steering pulling or feeling loose?

Loose or unpredictable steering can affect your ability to control the vehicle. If the wheel feels loose, the car pulls hard to one side, or you hear a clunk when turning or hitting a bump, avoid unnecessary driving and have it inspected as soon as possible.

A soft or bouncy ride still deserves attention, even if the car seems to drive normally.

Frequently asked questions

What causes a clunking noise over bumps?
This is often a worn sway bar link, control arm bushing, or ball joint. We inspect the suspension directly to find the exact part causing the noise rather than guessing.
Why does my car pull to one side while driving?
Pulling can point to worn suspension components, uneven tire wear, or an alignment issue. We check both suspension parts and tire wear patterns to find the actual cause.
Do I need new shocks and struts, or is it something else?
Not always. Sometimes a bushing or mount is worn while the shock or strut itself is fine. We inspect each component individually so you’re only paying for what actually needs replacing.
Is loose steering dangerous to drive with?
Yes, it can affect vehicle control, especially at higher speeds or in an emergency maneuver. If the wheel feels loose or the car pulls hard, it’s worth having inspected promptly.
How much does a suspension or steering repair cost?
It depends on the vehicle and which components are worn. We’ll inspect first, explain what we found, and give you a written quote before any work starts.
What vehicles do you service for suspension & steering?
Cars, SUVs, and trucks โ€” domestic, European, and Asian imports, as well as hybrid vehicles. If your ride feels off or your steering doesn’t feel right, we can help.
